Discover Your Musical Talents

Music is an integral part of our curriculum at Mount Anville and is taught by a specialist Music Teacher. Each class group receives 30 minutes of tuition each week in our fully equipped Music Room. Classes include singing, percussion and the three strands of the NCCA Primary Curriculum, listening and responding, performing and composing.

Montessori Department 

The following areas are covered in our scheduled weekly music classes in the Montessori department of our school.

In 2nd class the pupils have an additional scheduled class each week where they learn the Glockenspiel. This is a pitched percussion instrument. The girls are introduced to musical literacy at this stage which is then used to play the glockenspiel.

The Music Department works alongside the Drama Department throughout the school year at this level in preparation for our annual musical and plays. The shows are a highlight of the school year where the girls have the opportunity to perform on stage.

Senior Choir

5th & 6th Class

Senior Choir is for girls from 5th and 6th class. This is our school’s main choir and they perform at many internal and external events throughout the year. Events include Wesley Music Festival, Feis Ceoil, the school's Christmas Carol Service and our annual end of year Musical Celebration.

Junior Choir

3rd & 4th Class

Junior Choir is for girls of 3rd and 4th class. At this stage they are introduced to two part singing. They also perform at internal and external events throughout the school year including the school's annual musical coffee morning, AIJS Music Festival and our annual end of year Musical Celebration.

Little Voices

2nd Class

Little voices is on offer for girls from 2nd class. This is for girls who have a love of singing and would like to expand their repertoire and experience performing at different events which include the school's annual musical coffee morning, AIJS Music Festival and our annual end of year Musical Celebration.

Senior Percussion Band

3rd & 4th Class

Senior Percussion Band is for girls of 3rd and 4th class. This class includes games with and without the musical instruments which will give the girls an overall sense of rhythm and awareness of the different musical elements. The objective of this class is that each girl has 'hands on' experience playing musical instruments with the main focus being the glockenspiel. This is a continuation of the weekly glockenspiel classes that the girls attend in 2nd class.

3rd & 4th Class
Junior Percussion Club

1st Class

This class is for the children of 1st class. The aim of this group is to give the girls awareness of the different musical elements. It is a fun class with 'hands on' experience with the percussion instruments. It will also include rhythm and pitch games and an introduction to the glockenspiel.

School Orchestra

2nd to 6th Class

The Orchestra is open to any student that is at a competent level of playing. It is for girls who would like to be involved in group playing. The School Orchestra performs at different events internally and externally throughout the school year.
